Stephen Vogler is an author, playwright and musician

Stephen Vogler is the author of three books, two of them published by Harbour Publishing. His most recent title, Only in Whistler: Tales of a Mountain Town, is a humorous memoir about growing up in a small hippy ski bum town that rapidly grew into an international resort. He has written for national publications including The Globe & Mail and Explore Magazine, and has written and presented for various CBC Radio programs including Ideas. Stephen is also a playwright who has had four of his plays performed at theatres and festivals in Whistler, Gibsons and Powell River, BC. Stephen’s short fiction earned him a spot at the BC Festival of the Arts otherwords Literary Festival where he mentored with acclaimed Canadian novelist Jack Hodgins. He is the recipient of the Sea to Sky Travel and Feature Writing Award for his non-fiction.
Along with writing, Stephen makes his living as a musician and songwriter, and as the Artistic Director of The Point Artist-Run Centre in Whistler on the unceded territory of the Lil'wat and Squamish Nations.

Only in Whistler: Tales of a Mountain Town chronicles the evolution of Whistler from a hippy ski bum town of 500 tucked away in the Coast Mountains of BC to an international resort attracting over 3 million visitors a year. Vogler spins often humorous tales of the many outlandish characters he came to know growing up in the town that grew up around him.

Stephen Vogler & the West Coast Front
Ska, Reggae, Roots, Rock
Stephen plays regularly on the west coast with occasional tours to Ontario and Quebec. Following up on his 2019 EP release, Some Assembly Required, Stephen formed the West Coast Front, releasing his latest EP, Corn Chips & Bourbon in early 2022. Stephen blends wide ranging musical styles, from ska and reggae to roots rock, R&B and gypsy jazz, into highly original songs that cook up a storm! Whether playing solo with guitar, mandolin, vocals and foot percussion or with the full complement of the West Coast Front, Stephen always gets the dance floor shaking!

Stephen's most recent play, Aye Aye AI, premiered at the 2024 Flag Stop Theatre & Arts Festival in Whistler before touring to he Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons, BC and returning to the Maury Young Arts Centre stage in Whistler.
